The most expensive home for sale in the United States is right here in Broward County.
A Hillsboro Beach mansion known as Le Palais Royal is now back on the market for $159 million. That's $20 million more than the estate's original asking price in 2014 before it was delisted.
The 60,500-square-foot beachfront mansion has 11 bedrooms (three of those are master bedrooms, plus an additional "presidential" master suite) and 17 bathrooms. The home also includes an IMAX theater—the first ever contracted for residential use, according to Coldwell Banker—a $2 million marble staircase, 1,300-gallon aquarium, an infinity-edge pool with a suspended glass-bottom Jacuzzi, six waterfalls, and a subterranean garage that can hold up to 30 vehicles.
Miami-based architect and interior designer Denio Madera, who handled the home's interior design, said Le Palais Royal was inspired by the Palace of Versailles and other European castles. As such, the home is clad in 22-karat gold leaf, from the entrance gate and front door to the central staircase and kitchen cabinets.
The main home, which was under construction since 2009, has been completed, according to South Florida Business Journal, but other fun, new elements are still in the works: two guest houses, a pool and entertainment space, an ice skating rink, go-cart track, bowling alley and night club. The Miami Herald reported that owner and construction magnate Robert Pereira purchased a neighboring lot for this expansion.
