The City of Oakland Park, is a city in Broward County, Florida. As of the 2010 United States Census, the city's population was 41,363, mainly due to annexation of North Andrews Gardens and Twin Lakes South. It is part of the Miami, Fort Lauderdale, Pompano Beach, Metropolitan Statistical Area, which was home to 5,564,635 people at the 2010 census.
Originally named "Floranada" (a blend of Florida and Canada), the town was forced into bankruptcy after the hurricane of 1926. When the municipality reincorporated, residents chose to make it a city and voted for the name "Oakland Park." The original boundaries went from the Atlantic ocean, west to what is now U.S. 441, and from the north fork of Middle River north to Cypress Creek Boulevard, but when the boundaries were reestablished, it was to approximately the west side of U.S. 1, west to Northeast 3rd Avenue and the north fork of Middle River north to what is now Prospect Road. Overtime, it has expanded to its current boundaries, mainly due to acquiring a few other areas, such as recent annexations of previously unincorporated neighborhoods of Twin Lakes South and North Andrews Gardens. THE COMMUNITY OF OAKLAND PARK
THE COMMUNITY IN REVIEW
I love to eat, drink, and be entertained. So, as I have made my way through some of the communities right here in Greater Fort Lauderdale, I will place my own personal reviews of the establishments I have patronized. These are my reviews to date in the community of Oakland Park.
The Funky Buddha
About: A 40,000 square-foot production brewery located in the city of Oakland Park, in the heart of sunny South Florida. Opened in June, 2013, this facility is the first of its kind in Broward County and the largest brewery in South Florida. This unique facility also features a 3,000 square-foot tap room where their latest offerings, special releases, and brewery exclusive beers are available on tap nightly. The tap room hosts food trucks each and every night, with special dinners, pairings, and events held throughout the month. An upscale bar restaurant is expected to open in November of 2015 serving high-end bar fare.
My Review: What a great experience so close to home. Having traveled to amazing craft beer breweries like Founders in Grand Rapids, MI; Bells in Holland, MI, Southern Tier in NY, Maumee Bay Brewing in Toledo, OH; this Florida Brewery is well on track for becoming a long-term staple in the craft brewing industry.
Great flavors that do not overshadow the beer iteself but add a unique and sometimes whimsical flavor that makes you want to keep coming back and asking what's next!
Can't wait to see what the new restaurant is going to serve.
